Neoprene or Lycra Swimsuits and Girdle for Ostomates?
Many customers ask us about the materials of ostomy products and what kind of materials are best suited and so we have created an article that will clarify many doubts about it.
First of all, there are two main types of textile neoprene, one that is waterproof and is used to make wetsuits, surf clothes, etc. This type of neoprene is totally waterproof and provides total insulation while maintaining body temperature.
The other type of neoprene is the one that is marketed as fashionable clothing because it is easy to manipulate the time to create volumes, Neoprene in clothing is perfect for shelter in winter and very comfortable because of its soft texture allowing the body moves easily.
Once I clarify the types of neoprene we want to indicate that for swimsuits and swimming wraps if these are confessed to be the kind of waterproof neoprene then any air pockets that form will be trapped and when immersed in the water will tend to rise to the surface due to the difference in densities causing a pushing force on the swimming costume or wrap which would be uncomfortable and impractical.
That is why the neoprene used to make swimsuits or ostomy girdles are usually made of a non waterproof neoprene and for this reason we at Ostocare prefer lycra as it provides more elasticity and adapts better to the abdominal area as well as the colors in lycra do not fade easily.
Ostocare bathing suits and girdles have already been tested with safety and maximum guarantees for the ostomized patient in mind.
